Jefferys & Jones 18k yellow gold 42mm consular case dumb repeater ca 1780. Purple guilloche and white enameling. Glass intaglio on the reverse with a surround of natural 2mm half pearls. Gilt verge movement. Engraved and pierced balance cock with large, high quality, diamond endstone. Key wind and set. White porcelain dial with black painted Arabic numerals and 60 minute outer chapter. Rose gold beetle and poker hands. Stirrup bow. Fully signed Jefferys & Jones, London and numbered 542.
Jefferys & Jones were a prominent firm of royal goldsmiths, jewelers and sword retailers in London from 1765-1828.They were known for their superior quality and elaborately decorated watches. A similar item is held by the Royal Collection Trust since 1937 as acquired by Queen Mary, consort of George V, King of the United Kingdom. (1867-1953)
