Printed Broadside, 9 x 11.25 in. (sight), Is the War a Failure? Astor House, New York: National Union Executive Committee, n.d., ca 1864. With the opening:
The Chicago Convention declared that the War against the Rebellion had proven a FAILURE. They put forth as "the sense of the American People" and on the strength of this declaration, they demanded that "immediate efforts be made for a CESSATION OF HOSTILITIES!". Is this true? Is the war in which we have poured forth our blood and treasure - in which thousands and tens of thousands of our sons and our brothers have laid down their lives, - A FAILURE?
Followed by reprints of testimonials from Generals U.S. Grant, Truman Seymour, W.T. Sherman, and John Adams Dix attesting to why the war is not a failure.
A rare, pro-Abraham Lincoln, Union ticket broadside defending the Civil War that was deemed a failure by the Democratic Convention at Chicago.
Very light soiling at folds. Some light spots, few areas of slight discoloration.
