Sibly, E. AN UNIVERAL SYSTEM OF NATURAL HISTORY, INCLUDING THE NATURAL HISTORY OF MAN; THE ORANG-OUTANG... London: Printed for the Proprietor : Sold by Champante and Whitrow, (1794 - 1795). Two Volumes. 8 by 5 inches in contemporary full polished calf with gilt printed leather labels to the spine. Complete with 35 inserted full page copper plate engravings of humans and apes. Ebenezer Sibly (1751-1799) was an English physician, astrologer, and writer on the occult. In this work Sibly claims the White Race was the first on earth. "We must consider white as the stock whence all others have sprung, Adam and Eve and all their posterity, till the time of the deluge were white; in the first age of the world no black nation was to be found on the face of the earth."
With private collectors' labels (one 19th C.; one 20th C.) to the pastedowns; rubbing and wear to the joints and edges; plates with occasional foxing but gnerally clean. Bindings solid and sound.Condition
