Pratt, Anne. THE FLOWERING PLANTS, GRASSES, SEDGES, AND FERNS OF GREAT BRITAIN, AND THEIR ALLIES THE CLUB MOSSES, PEPPERWORTS, AND HORSETAILS. London: Warne and Co.; New York: Scribner, Welford and Co., circa 1873. 6 volumes, 9 1/8 by 5 3/4 inches, in the original gilt, black, and red stamped green cloth with gilt and black decorations, titling to the spines, and all edges gilt. Pratt (1806-1893) was one of the most famous and prolific botanists of her time and this 6 volume work is generally considered her masterpiece. Nissen BBI 1562; Stafleu & Cowan, TL2 8275; Kramer, Women of Flowers, pp. 157-163.
Volume VI with a 1 inch closed tear at the head of the spine; very occasional light foxing to some of the plates, but generally clean, fresh and Near Fine. A very attractive 6 volume set.Condition
