Lot Description

Diderot, Denis. ENCYCLOPEDIE METHODIQUE OU BIBLIOTHEQUE UNIVERSELLE DE TOUTES LES CONNAISANCES HUMAINES CLASSEES... Paris; Liege: ca. 1772. 4 Plate Volumes - 11 7/8 by 8 3/4 inches in early 1/2 leather and marbled boards. 4 odd volumes from the massive and famous 18th Century encyclopedia. 2 (of 3) volumes from the botany series; 1 volume of mammals, whales, fish, etc.; and 1 volume of birds and reptiles. Over 1200 copper plate engravings in all.

Condition

Bindings are very worn, scuffed and battered. Intermittent foxing/staining to approximately 20% of the plates - but the majority are clean and with very strong tones. A group of 4 odd plate volumes of Diderot, representing over 1200 full page illustrations.
