Greetings from Hopiland! I've had two+ full, extraordinary days, most of which I've spent in the villages of First Mesa. The village of Bacari was having a cow katsina dance - a dance that I was welcome to attend, and the katsina dances are always a great experience.
But first things first - I spent an entire day with Dextra Quotskuyva, the great granddaughter of Nampeyo - Dextra knew Nampeyo and as I think I told you, is the family historian and, in my own opinion, the best living Nampeyo family potter and perhaps the best living Hopi potter.
Both of your vessels were of interest to Dextra - the one marked "A" is, according to Dextra, Nampeyo's own work. The lines are somewhat less precise than much of Nampeyo's work so both of us think it must have been done later in her life. I think you can honestly speak about this seed jar as "attributed to Nampeyo by Dextra Q." The jar marked "B" is from the Nampeyo family but not Nampeyo's work. Dextra thinks it is probably the work of Annie, Nampeyo's daughter. I simply haven't seen as many vessels as I would need to made (for certain) by Annie to add to this. But Dextra's word is the best you can get.
