American (Ohio), ca 1856. A pictorial sampler in the original frame, with stitched alphabet and numeric line above the verse Industry is the content in every Excellence / The finest talents would be lost in obscurity / If they were not called forth by study and / Cultivation. Sarah Pyers work in her 8th year. Beneath the text is a scene of a log cabin surrounded by trees with fine details of birds and smoke rising from the chimney; 7.25 x 11.75 in. (sight).
Sarah Pyers was born in 1848 in Holmes County, Ohio. She died in Nebraska in 1933. Detailed genealogy accompanying sampler.
