16 in. overall length, wood plug is 3 x 2.7" in diameter with original wood base held by wood pins. Two holes in the lobe. Two raised rings on spout and raised ring at tip. Horn is engraved Henry Bowers with a pair of initials H.B. on the horn as well as the plug. Cities included on the horn are: New York, Chinakety, E. Hvnier, F. Henrik, F. Harkiman, F. Sciler, F. Stainwix, Wood Creek, Royal Blok Hoys, F. Edward, Niagara, Lake Ontario, Saratoga, Stilwater, Half Moon, Albany, and Canada Creek. Images include: ships, buildings, rivers, forts, a man shooting at a deer with his dog nearby, trees, and a windmill. Some of the rivers, human figures and animals are highlighted in light red.
Previously sold in these rooms as Lot 7, April 28-29, 2010 Historic Firearms and Militaria Auction.
2 in. crack in the bottom of the horn that shows its age. Very light scratches do not detract from the overall appearance of the horn. This horn has a nice untouched dark patina and still retains most of the original polychrome out lining the rivers and cities. A small chip on the raised ring at the spout. Some scuffing on the spout. Overall this is a great horn.
