Approx. 20 in. maximum length of front, 19 in. across the back at the underarms. (missing closure for the back tabs)
Medal in a patriotic thermoplastic case, a bit smaller than a sixth-plate photo case, 2.5 x 3 in. Front of medal with "Toujours Pret ['Always ready'] / IX N.Y. Vols. / Hawkins Zouaves." Verso with winged Liberty blessing a Zouave who holds a flag and stands in the midst of cannon, ammunition, etc.

INGERSOLL, William H. Autograph letter signed ("Wm. H. Ingersoll") to John A. Kershaw. New York, 14 September 1909. 1 page, 4to, on Ingersoll and Ingersoll-Trenton Watches letterhead, toned. Ingersoll, a veteran of the Hawkins' Zouaves, writes to Kershaw about his ticket reservations for the Hudson-Fulton Celebration of our Club. Ingersoll enlisted on 3 May 1861 as a private and was mustered into Co. F of the 9th New York the next day. Promoted to sergeant on 5 September 1862 and mustered out with the regiment on 20 May 1863 in New York. He later re-enlisted on 10 December 1863, again as a private, and mustered into Co. C of the 13th New York Cavalry on 14 December 1863. He again saw promotion to 1st sergeant on 4 March 1865, though was reduced to sergeant on 12 September 1865. He transferred into Co. H of the 3rd New York Provisional Cavalry on 17 August 1865, mustering out on 21 September 1864 at Camp Barry, Washington DC.
Grand Army of the Republic commission certificate for John Wesley Jacobus to the position of aide-de-camp. New York, 1 September 1919. 13 x 11 in. printed certificate with foil seal (light creases). Jacobus enlisted on 12 August 1861 in New York as a private, mustering in the same day into Co. A of the 9th New York. He mustered out with the regiment on 20 May 1863.
Press photograph of Albert Morgan, a veteran of the Hawkins' Zouaves. New York: 6 March 1924. 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 in. silver gelatin photograph. Clipped newspaper caption and International Newsreel stamp to verso. Morgan enlisted on 11 September 1862 in New York as a private and was mustered in on 13 September into Co. B of the 9th New York. He was discharged for disability on 5 January 1863. The image here shows Morgan at 80 who has adopted Sarah Filene, after her kind care nursing through a long-term illness.

Tip tray with "Made for Hotel Astor by L. Straus & Sons, New York" printed on verso, and large hotel on the tray, approx. 4.5 x 6 in. Possibly a "souvenir" from a convention. However some troops, including Anderson's Zouaves, trained at the Hotel, called "Camp Astor" by some of the men.
