Hugo Hartman (1827-?) and Charles A. Saxe (1825-1898) were both instrument makers working in Philadelphia either under their own names or for others. The firm of Hartman & Saxe was in business from about 1853 to 1856. Thomas Jefferson Megear (1809-1878) is listed as a silversmith and clock maker in Wilmington, Delaware from 1831-1832 and in Philadelphia from 1833-1847. The Friends Select School, founded in 1833, is a Quaker school in Philadelphia.
