Many artists went to the battlefields of World War I and represented the devastation they saw in their works. A popular method of communicating the brutality of the war was to show what a site looked like after a battle had taken place. Marcel Augis's and Paul Mansard's work is a great example of this. Many works by Augis, who also published under the name Henri Dupont, would have been sold to soldiers returning home from the Great War.
