American. Two cast iron table mills, including a Griswold Mfg Co. grinder with Erie embossed on hopper and a New Union mill with New Model embossed at base, design based on an 1885 patent; Griswold mill oah. 11, wd. 6.5, dp. 7 in., New Union mill oah. 7.75, wd. 6, dp. 5 in. (each including handle and mount).
Each model is referenced and pictured in Antique Coffee Grinders: American, English, and European by Michael L. White and Judith A. Sivonda (Atglen, PA: Schiffer Publishing, 2001) on pages 115 (4-138) and 131 (4-175).The Griswold mill has wear including loss of most of the original gilt.Condition
