George Washington Inaugural Buttons
Lot of 4 George Washington inaugural buttons, including: stamped brass button with arched inscription across top Long Live The President and central oval with GW, approx. 1.375 in. dia.; stamped brass button featuring a shield-breasted American eagle clutching arrows and a laurel branch at center, and a heraldic estoile with alternate wavy rays above, within a narrow border of 63 marks, approx. 1.375 in. dia.; stamped brass button featuring same American Eagle and heraldic estoile, surrounded by inscription, March the Fourth 1789 Memorable Era, approx. 1.375 in. dia.; and stamped brass button, central oval with GW, surrounded by the slogan, Long Live the President, and linked ovals enclosing initials of original 13 states along outer edge, approx. 1.375 in. dia. Each framed for display, 5 x 5 in.Condition
Previous owner had each button polished. Only one soldered eyelet is visible on back of frame (GW, Long Live the President). The remaining buttons have been removed from frames and appeared to have been glued in to the mounts.
