From the estate of Hannah Woodman of Portland, Maine, auctioned on June 25 and 26, 1974. The Woodman family and Hannah also had a second summer home on Great Diamond Island, in Casco Bay, near Portland. The Woodman family settled in Portland in 1881, when Hannah's father Edward began his law practice.
The painting was framed and displayed in the Portland Art Museum's late 1970 to early 1980 exhibits of various Maine artists ("State of Maine Collection"). Letter from John Holverson, curator and director of the the Portland Art Museum at the time painting was loaned to the museum.
