- Lot Description
The Daily Humboldt Register. Winnemucca, NV: July 7, 1876. Vol. 1, No. 154, with San Francisco dealer stamp. 4pp, 13 x 20 in. Featuring the announcement of Custer's death at the Battle of Little Big Horn almost two weeks prior on June 25-26, 1876. A special from Helena, Montana, reports:
Gen. Custer found an Indian camp of two hundred lodges, and attacked the camp. Custer took five companies and charged the thickest portion of the camp. Major Reno commanded the other seven companies, and charged the lower portion of the camp. Custer, his two brothers, a nephew and a brother-in-law, were all killed and not one of his detachment escaped...
This is a rare imprint as The Daily Humboldt Register was only published for one year from January 1, 1876 through November 4, 1876.
Condition
Newspaper fully separated at vertical seam. Toned. Small losses and tears along all edge lines not affecting text.
One salad plate chipped. Two butter pats with chips, one with hairline.
