French, mid to late 19th century. A mahogany bedroom suite in the Neoclassical style including a bed, dresser and side table. Each piece featuring corresponding decorative elements of inset panels with brass or giltwood trim and columnar supports with inset brass fluting. The headboard and footboard having shaped crests flanked by columns with feathered or foliate finials, all on castors. The dresser having a cheval mirror with beveled glass, set on three, stepback short drawers, over a four drawer chest with ovolo corners. The side table having a pierced gallery over a single drawer, all on short column supports set on a lower compartment enclosed by a single door, rising on tapering legs and ball feet; chest of drawers (including mirror) oah. 78.5, wd. 50, dp. 23.5 in., side table ht. 33, wd. 19.5, dp. 19.5 in., headboard ht. 53.25, wd. 62.75, side rail of bed lg. 76.75 in.
The suite was purportedly originally sold at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1855.
