American, ca 1810. A tall case clock in an inlaid and grain painted mahogany case with birds-eye maple half columns, having an eight-day time and strike movement on bell, the dial set with calendar and seconds, along with rocking ship decoration, signed indistinctly for Frederick Wingate (1782-1864, Augusta, Maine); ht. 92.5, wd. 18.75, dp. 9.75 in.
The door interior has numerous hand-written inscriptions including S.M. Mariner / Sept. 20-1860 / S.M. Mariner / Portland? / Aug-8-1863 / Rep. B? / Robt. A. Dunning / Aug. 1902 / ? Wiggleson? / June 17 1910 / New York / ? / April 13th 1889. There are additional illegible inscriptions on the case interior. A note affixed to door interior reads Frederick / Wingate / Augusta / Maine / Our / Grandfather / Clock and a later business card for Ken-Hav Clock Service of Newtown, Ohio is also affixed to door interior.
