Depicts detailed soldiers marching through field with casualties lying in the foreground while buildings and trees make up the background.
Fred Roe, a portrait, landscape, and military scene painter, studied at the Heatherley School of Fine Art under Seymour Lucas. Elected to the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Institute of British Painters, Roe became quite a success in his own right. Much of his painting focused on historical genre subjects, including Joan of Arc and Horatio Nelson. Today, the National Portrait Gallery in London houses some of his work. This print highlights Roe's attention to detail in the soldiers' uniforms and facial expressions.
