J. H. Gest (1859-1935) was a prominent figure in the Cincinnati art world of the late 19th-early 20th century. He is mostly remembered as the director of the Cincinnati Art Museum (1902-1932) and of Rookwood Pottery (1913-1934). An artist himself, he worked in the oil and watercolor mediums, and specialized in regional landscapes. He worked closely with his friend, Frank Duveneck.
