View of the Central Bridge from the Western Side of Mount Adams, Cincinnati
oil on canvas
signed l.r.
framed
23.5 x 17.5 in. (sight)

Frances Farrand Dodge lived in Cincinnati for a few years with her husband Arthur Dodge, though she was also active in Michigan, Minnesota, Chicago, and the Northeast. She received her education from various institutions, including Michigan State University, the Arts Students League in New York, and the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. She was also a student of Franck Duveneck in Cincinnati.
The work of Frances Farrand Dodge is very sparse and does not surface at auction very often, especially depictions of Cincinnati. This example, a vivid and colorful rendering of an identifiable location, is a particularly notable work. The Central Bridge, depicted in this painting, was built in 1891 and demolished in 1992, to be replaced by the current Taylor-Southgate bridge, which crosses the Ohio river to connect Newport, KY and Cincinnati, OH.
