American, 19th century. Oil on canvas laid down on thick paper board. Depicting a young woman seated and wearing a white dress with a rose in her left hand, unsigned and housed in a period gilt wood frame. Verso attached with a contemporary paper label marked Catherine Reber / Born Oct. 9, 1813 / in Lancaster, Ohio / Grandmother of / Fannie Manser / Lawrence; 26.25 x 21 in. (sight).
The lot also includes a 1876 edition of The Poetical Works of Alice and Phoebe Cary, published Hurd and Houghton, NY.

Frame with some surface wear including gilt losses and cracks as would be expected with age and use. Canvas trimmed and laid down on thick paper board with dark tape around the outer edges. Some small spots or bubbles where the canvas has lifted from the board. A few small spots of overpainting on her dress.
