- Lot Description
Five-Drawer Blanket Chest in Original Blue Sponge Paint
American, 19th century. A pine and poplar blanket chest of paneled construction, retaining its original blue sponge-painted surface, having a hinged, molded lid and an open interior above three over two aligned dovetailed drawers fitted with wooden pulls, all rising on short, ring-turned legs ending in ball feet; ht. 32.5, wd. 45.25, dp. 20.5 in.
Provenance: Purchased by the consignor at Adam's Rib of Lebanon, Ohio in 1969.Condition
Paint in original, untouched condition. Some minor surface wear and imperfections as would be expected with age and use, including some small chips and paint wear/losses around the edges of the case. Some scratches to paint on lid. Left hinge reset. Bottom of case slightly warped so that there is a slight gap under lower drawers. Retains original knobs. Chest and drawers retain the interior lock mechanisms.
