- Lot Description
Chinese, ca 1850. Five oils on canvas, housed in gilt frames with oval openings. The scenes depicted include the nine-stage pagoda at Whampoa from two different viewpoints, two laden Chinese junks, one at anchor, one at sea, and a harbor scene with entrance to a Chinese town, all unmarked; 19.5 x 14.5 in. (sight of each).

Provenance: Property from the Descendants of Bertha Benkard Rose, Oyster Bay, NY and Tucson, AZEach canvas has been relined. If there used to be Namcheong stamps to the back of the canvas, they are no longer visible after the relining process. Significant amount of in-painting on each. Stable craquelure on each. Wear to the frames, including gilt and ornament losses, and a few breaks and cracks.Condition
