First Model Henry Rifle
.44 RF caliber, 24.5" octagonal barrel, S/N 235. With first model-style barrel markings, front sight, square cut in frame where the cartridge following rests. Lever with no latch. Early perch-belly buttstock with early style comb, early rounded buttplate. Original hickory four-piece cleaning rods with iron ferules. Original 1000-yard barrel sight. Sight leaf is missing. Varnished stock.
Provenance: A.C. Daum
Barrel is smooth with most of the original blue turned to a very nice plum. When you roll this rifle you can see blue through the plum. Rear sight evenly matches the barrel in finish, a plum with iridescence of blue finish bleeding through. Brass frame shows honest "carry wear," but no abuse. However, the frame has the most beautiful dark mustard colored crystallization throughout. Hammer has patina with original finish mixing in. Lever has deep dark brown patina. Buttplate has the same beautiful crystallization evenly matching the frame. Buttstock has had a repair in the toe that is a period repair. Buttstock still retains most of the original varnished finish. Bore will clean to excellent. The rifling is very sharp; there is some dirt that will clean out if one chooses to do so. Cleaning rods are excellent.
Overall this is an excellent example of an early First Model Henry rifle. This untouched Henry has all of the correct early features of the no-lever-latch rifles with no upgrading or replacement parts. Study of the survival rate of these early no-lever-latch rifles indicate they are the scarcest variation of the Henry rifles including the iron frame.
