Twentieth century heavyweights of sport and world politics celebrate together.
Titled "Castro and Louis Usher in the New Year," the photograph shows the leader of Cuba and former heavyweight champion chatting at a midnight banquet at the Habana Hilton Hotel in the early morning of New Year's Day, 1960. The caption reports that "Castro welcomed 1960 with a wish for improved relations with the United States" and that the usually casually-dressed leader "made a rare concession to formality by wearing a dress uniform, including white shirt and black tie."
