Dean, Bashford, Metropolitan Museum of Art. Catalogue of European Court Swords and Hunting Swords. Including the Ellis, De Dino, Riggs, and Reubell Collections. New York: MMA, 1929. Large 4to, 3/4 leather over brown cloth; color frontis, 86 numb. pp, [i] (Marks), 101 plates, with tipped in plate numbers, and item numbers, but numbered 1-86, then 1-15, but printed sequential plate numbers at top of each.
Diderot, Denis. Arts Militaire: Exercise, Evolutions de l'infanterie, Evolutions de la cavalerie, Fortification & artillerie. Paris: Diderot, ca. 1780. Section apparently removed from Diderot's Encyclopedie, 5 numb. pp, in French, 38 plates showing uniformed soldiers, drills and battle formations and maneuvers, fortifications and cannon, mortars, catapults, battering rams, etc. Folio, pages trimmed, red edges, in what appears to be a later 3/4 leather binding, printed endpapers. Other copies similar to this, as well as other combinations of sections from Diderot's Encyclopedia, have appeared on the market.
First: Boards separated from textblock, but still connected in one piece (front, spine, back). All plates and pages separate, but everything appears to be present. Minor toning around adhesive from tipped in numbers.
Second: On laid paper with light toning, scattered light foxing. Generally very good.
