Lot Description

English, 19th century. A reverse painted memorial image of Prince Leopold standing over the grave of Charlotte of Wales, along with the figure of Britannia, the text along the bottom reading Prince Cobourg at the Tomb of of his Beloved Consort Princess Charlotte of Wales, Lamenting her Death. / Which Melancholy and deeply regretted Event took place on the 6th of Nov. 1817 after being delivered of a still-born Male Infant. / This Plate is respectfully dedicated to the feelings of the British Nation by W.B. Walker, 4 Fox & Knot Court, Cow Lane, London. Housed in a painted frame; 11.75 x 15.75 in. (frame).
