Glacial Kame Culture / Late Archaic Period, 4000-1000 B.C.

5.5 in.An exceptional example, large in size and made from dark, highly banded slate. It is possible that the slate may have originally been dark green but patinated to a dark brown over time. This bird features nodular eyes that rise from the head; the natural banding of the slate forms a concentric circle around the left eye. The slightly expanding tail has a rearward lean. This is a beautiful birdstone having great form and color.
