- Lot Description
Collection of 45 papers related to early United States postal history including ALsS by postmaster generals, W.T. Barry and General John McLean, ca 1820s until the early 1830s.
Other items of note include a copy of a letter addressed to President John Quincy Adams, May 23, 1826 concerning Henry Wertz' nomination as justice of the peace, written by A.C.(?); a handwritten copy of the 1822 regulations for the postal service; many documents on appointments and dismissals of Washington clerks; and an ALS by first postmaster assistant, William A. Bradley.
Provenance: Descended in the family of Abraham Bradley, Assistant Postmaster General of the US, Ca 1793-1829Typical folds and toning of the paper. Some brittleness at the folds.Condition
