Printed broadside, 8 x 11 in. (sight), matted and framed, 12.75 x 16.25 in. 1812 Pensions. Canandaigua, NY: 1878.
A rare advertising broadside endorsed by John S. Coe, a lawyer from Canandaigua, NY, announcing:
A New Law, by act of March 9th, 1878, granting a pension of $8.00 per month to every survivor of the War of 1812, who served fourteen days, or was in any engagement, and to the widows of such officers or enlisted men, without regard to date of marriage! Proof of loyalty not required. The Bill Restores to the Roll the Names of all Persons Dropped for Disloyalty.
In his efforts to entice new clients, Coe notes that he "has had twelve years' experience in claim business, and has been very successful in obtaining pensions for 1812 soldiers and their widows." With an additional advertisement at bottom for the Neighbor's Home Mail, a "Soldier's Paper" published in Phelps, NY, which contained up-to-date information regarding recently passed Bounty and Pension Laws.
Not examined outside of frame. With horizontal fold lines, slight separation along few folds. Few short tears along edges.
