- Lot Description
wool with cotton lining; beaded using glass beads in colors of rose, greasy yellow, pony trader blue, white, pea green, red white-heart, and cobalt. Repetitive geometric pattern on pouch and abstract floral design on strap. Two rows of tin cones filled with dark red wool form decorative fringe; length 33 in. x width 9.25 in.
ca 1850Box that held bag at time of acquisition read, Indian Bag, Fort Gibson, I. Territory, 1875. First of year, year we went to Sweden and Todd was born there August 1st. Fort Gibson was established in 1824 and located in Muskogee County, Oklahoma. The fort was the westernmost, in a north-south chain intended to protect the Western frontier. The fort was abandoned in 1890.
