Lot of 11 cartes de visite, featuring 6 views of Boston and its environs. Four CDVs are credited to John P. Soule and provide excellent views of Boston landmarks, including the State House, State Street & Old State House, Faneuil Hall, and Kings Chapel. Buggies, wagons, and horse-drawn carriages can also be seen in Soule's unique street scenes. Accompanied by an interior view of Boston's Music Hall, showcasing the Great Organ, the first concert pipe organ installed in the US, with Getchell & Brownell, Boston backmark, possibly taken around 1862, after the organ was installed. A distant view of the Watch Factory in Waltham, MA, credited to H.F. Warren of Waltham, is also included.
Additionally, the lot contains 2 outdoor views of large estates in New Hampshire, one credited to A.D. Stark, Manchester, the other credited to H.O. Bly, Hanover; 2 outdoor views of homes in Northwest Illinois, one with a sign out front identified as "American House / A. Holcomb," credited to R. Swaim, Nora, IL; and an uncredited view of a dirt-covered track.
