Dewey's Nurserymen's Colored Fruit and Flowers Book
Unusual large version of Dewey's The Specimen Book of Fruits, Flowers and Ornamental Trees, Carefully Drawn and Colored from Nature for the Use of Nurserymen. Rochester (NY): D.M. Dewey, Agt. 1872. Small 4to, 3/4 leather over cloth boards, front with gilt lettering, and fruit, gilt spine, with 75 unnumb. pages of colored specimen pages, with 1872 order form tipped into back. More often one encounters the "pocket" type specimen books. Specimens include: 17 Apples; Chokeberry (2 on 1 page); 6 Pears; 9 Prunus sp.; 1 Quince; Cherry (1 pg with 8 specimens); 2 Strawberries; Blackberry; Raspberry; 2 Currants; 6 trees; 4 grapes; 11 flowers other than roses; 12 Roses; Design for a Cemetery Lot (uses 10 plants, most from catalog).
