- Lot Description
.577 caliber, 29.5" cut barrel, no S/N. Converted to carbine length. Blued finish with cut stock, brass and iron furniture. Replacement post front sight with original ladder rear sight, replacement ramrod. Barrel shows typical British proofs. Lockplate marked with Tower stamp over 1862 date with crown rear of hammer, though there are no visible British military acceptance markings. Stamp on right of stock shows Birmingham Small Arms Trade markings, with toe of stock marked "J. COOK & SON", as is the bottom of the barrel. Additional, nearly illegible firm markings on stock rear of triggerguard with left side of stock rear of lockplate screw washers appears marked "T. COLLIT". Inside of lockplate also marked "J. COOK" with "CHEATHAM" maker's mark around stud.
Fair. Stock and barrel have been cut to a carbine conversion. Barrel has a smooth browned coloration with some pitting around cone. Stock has blemishes and dents associated with use, with stamps faint but legible with effort. 2.5" split in ramrod channel between barrel bands. Lock does not function normally, as the mainspring is missing and swivel/tumbler link is broken. Bore is fair with some darkening and pitting but visible worn rifling.Condition
