- Lot Description
Etching with engraving, 8.25 x 5.25 in., including margins. The Political Cartoon for the Year 1775. Illustration published in Westminster Magazine. London: May 1, 1775. Vol. 3. 2pp, opposite p. 209. Accompanied by text describing the cartoon.
The frantic scene portrays Britain's King George III and Lord Mansfield, seated together on an open chaise drawn by two horses labeled "Obstinacy" and "Pride," recklessly embarking on a war with the American Colonies, which are collectively represented as a fiery abyss in the distance.
Condition
Disbound. With partial separation along central vertical fold. Some light chips/loss along central vertical fold. Cartoon overall very fine condition. Few smudges on accompanying pages.
Item is in good overall condition.
