- Lot Description
.58 caliber, 40" barrel retained by three barrel bands. Bright finish, walnut stock. An 1855 rifle musket with a replacement 1861 dated Springfield lock, Sharps pattern iron patchbox, an early 1861 pattern rear sight, incorrect middle barrel band, and a reproduction ramrod. All markings have been cleaned off the barrel, but the correct 1855 pattern steady pin notch is present under the rear sight. Approximately 1" of the barrel, closest to the muzzle, has been smoothbored, with the balance of the barrel remaining rifled. Includes a correct pattern US 1855 socket bayonet, a seven-rivet scabbard and a wooden tompion.
Good as assembled. Barrel cleaned with a splotchy discolored age patina. Stock crudely inlet for Sharps patchbox, with numerous bumps and dings, and some wood missing around the barrel tang. Mechanically functional, good bore. Bayonet and scabbard good.Condition
