- Lot Description
.59, 33" round barrel. Lock marked C.S. / RICHMOND, VA forward of the hammer and dated 1862 to the rear. No visible marks on the barrel, which does show a correct, Richmond style crude steady pin cut under the rear sight base. US marked iron buttplate, brass nose cap secured by single screw. Reproduction 1858 pattern rear sight. 1855 rifle-type front sight. Replaced barrel bands. Lock mortise with rudimentary mule's foot but also showing significant wear. Reproduction iron ramrod.
Fair. Barrel in relic condition, heavily rusted and smoothbore. Stock extremely worn with cracks and repairs and a spliced forend, extended from the lower band forward. Lock is mechanically functional and has a reproduction mainspring. This appears to be an attempt to restore a relic condition rifle that was sporterized at some point and turned into a shotgun. Various missing parts were replaced during the restoration attempt.Condition
