- Lot Description
Colt "Lightning" Double Action Revolver
.38 Colt caliber, 3.5" barrel without ejector rod, S/N 84933 (mfg. ca 1891). Nickel finish, checkered hard rubber Rampant Colt grips. Cylinder numbered " 933 ." Other numbers too worn to read. Two-line barrel address, patent dates on frame with Rampant Colt logo. In the interior of the right grip the following is scratched: CONSTABLE HARLEY SCHOONOVER 1939 NELSONVILLE O . On the interior of the left grip the following is scratched: JUNE 5th 1934 CONSTABLE H. SCHOONOVER STAR T.W.P. HOCKING COUNTY OHIO. According to the 1930 Census there were two Harley Schoonover living in OH during this period who appear to be father and son. The proximity of Nelsonville to Starr Township certainly suggests that Mr. Schoonover may have worked as a constable in both locations. A well used revolver with some potentially interesting Ohio history from the period of the Great Depression that is worthy of additional research.
Fair. Well worn with traces of finish and markings difficult to read. Metal with scattered oxidation and some light pitting. Cylinder pin with mars, cylinder pin release replaced. Mechanically functional, fair bore with pitting, grips worn with checkering smoothed.Condition
