- Lot Description
** Colt Army Special Revolver With Fitz Custom Frame And Triggerguard
.38 Special caliber, 4" barrel, S/N 410845 (mfg. ca 1917). Blued finish, checkered wood grips with silver Rampant Colt medallions. Left side of barrel marked COLT ARMY / SPECIAL 38 , top of barrel with standard two-line Colt address and patent markings. Rampant Colt on left rear of frame. Revolver with "Fitz Special" modified triggerguard and checkered trigger, but without other usual Fitzgerald modifications like the barrel shortened to 2" or the bobbed hammer. Pinned front sight with white bead, low mount fixed rear sight set in frame with white "U" shaped outline. An interesting, "semi-Fitz Special" that might be worth a factory letter to see if this was one of John Henry Fitzgerald's early attempts at combat modifications for a revolver.
Very good. Retains most of the blued finish with some wear and loss, primarily the result of carry and use. Clear markings, mechanically functional, very good bore. Very good grips with some scattered handling marks.Condition
