Lot Description

Lot of 6 stereoviews published by E. & H.T. Anthony, New York. Each title is printed on verso applied paper label, and include: The Great Eastern. From foot of Hammond Street; Partial View of the "Sound Steamer" "Bristol"; Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker, USA, in profile; Fraser's House; used by Gen. Butler for officers' purposes; View showing how close the Picket lines were to each other, near Petersburgh [sic], Va.; & Grand Review of the Great Veteran Armies of Grant and Sherman, at Washington, on the 23d and 24th May, 1865. This particular view captures Sherman's Grand Army, looking up Pennsylvania Avenue from the Treasury Buildings, with Major General Slocum and Staff and Army of Georgia passing in Review.

Condition

Hooker view and Petersburg picket lines with 3 cent internal revenue stamps on mount verso. Frasers' house view with four small rectangular openings cut in mount in the area where windows are shown in the photographs. Some light soiling to each view, few scattered spots. Light wear to mount corners and edges. Slightly heavier toning of Sherman's Grand Army view.
