- Lot Description
Paper ID tag, 1.625 x 2.75 in., identified to "Sergt. Oliver Lighthall" of Co. A, 115th NY Volunteer Infantry, and issued by the US Christian Commission. These paper tags are much rarer than the standard metallic disc style. The small brass grommet used for hanging was probably lost in battle during the many campaigns of the "Iron Hearted Regiment."
Sergeant Lighthall was wounded at Chester Station, VA on May 7, 1864. Included are Lighthall's military and pension records as well as the 1865 edition of the regimental history (front cover detached) listing Lighthall as a sergeant in Co. A, and as having been wounded at the aforementioned battle.
Small brass grommet no longer present. Few short tears along edges. Wear typical with age and use.Condition
