Lot Description

Nicely grained, folk art carved dark wood pipe, likely laurel root. Front of bowl with large open winged flying eagle over lettering relief carved in two large wavy lines, Bull Run / Army of the Potomac. Bowl's underside features three large palm leaves carved in high relief. Left side with relief carved battles Antietam / Fredericksburg; right side Hannover. Stem section on reverse high relief carved with soldier's name C. Knapp. Overall width 3.75 in.; bowl height 2 in., dia. approx. 1.875 in. We were unable to locate the service records of C. Knapp.

Condition

Chip in stem section. Inventory number inked on one of the palm leaves carved on underside of bowl. Clearly used, but in very fine condition overall.
