- Lot Description
Lot of 2 sixth plate ambrotypes featuring the same seated soldier of the 12th Illinois Volunteers, wearing a different jacket in each portrait, and holding a rifle across his chest (in one image). Ambrotypes housed together in full thermoplastic case.
The 12th Illinois was also known as the 1st Scotch Regiment, and mustered into Federal service at Cairo, IL for a three-year enlistment on August 1, 1861. The regiment participated in the Battle of Shiloh, Corinth, Resaca, Atlanta, Jonesboro, Bentonville, and the famous March to the Sea.
Both images have some discoloration to top/center.Condition
