Albumen photograph, 7 x 9 in., on a larger mount with the imprinted title "Head-Quarters New York Herald, Army of the Potomac. Bealton [sic], September, 1863," negative by T.H. The photograph was published as Plate No. 56 in Gardner's Photographic Sketch Book of the War, and presents a view of an encampment serving as the temporary headquarters for the New York Herald near Bealeton, VA. A carriage is visible at right, with painted sign, "N.Y.H. Headquarters." A group of men, likely the Herald's corps of newspaper correspondents, and their horses stand together at the encampment, looking directly at the camera. Matted and framed, 17.75 x 19.75 in. Accompanied by original descriptive panel.
