Printed scorecard, 7.5 x 10.75 in., one side with a mechanically printed team photo, the other with an image of Redland Field, scoring boxes for the nine possible games of the World Series, of which the eight necessary are inked in, and advertisements for The Atlas Rubber and Belting Co. of Cincinnati and Dayton.
Rare ephemera from the infamous 1919 "Black Sox" World Series.
The 1919 World Series was one of only four ever played to have been a best-of-nine series. The Cincinnati Reds won their first World Series title ever -- in the 50th anniversary of becoming the first professional team -- over the favored Chicago White Sox, who had been one of the top teams over the previous seasons. It is best remembered, however, for the gambling scandal which led to the lifetime ban of eight players, including would-be Hall-of-Famer "Shoeless Joe" Jackson. Of the "Eight Men Out," pitchers Eddie Ciccote and Lefty Williams feature prominently on the scorecard, as Ciccote went 1-2, and Williams took the loss three times in three starts, setting a World Series record for losses.
Corners bumped. Five areas at the edges with evience of tape used for mounting, none deeper than 1/8 in. into the margin. Some light creasing visible on the team photo side.
