Four issues, bound together, of The Cincinnati Daily Enquirer. Vol. XXXIII, Nos. 163-166, each 8pp, 15 x 21.5 in. Cincinnati, OH: June 13-17, 1869. The June 13 issue features an article on the "Tour of the 'Red Stockings,'" describing the success of the first fully professional baseball team, which was undefeated and had defeated its opponents 398-111 by that date.
The Cincinnati Commercial. Vol. XXXI No. 87. Cincinnati: November 27, 1870. Features a large, front page cartoon of the Cincinnati Red Stockings titled, "The Amateur Nine of the Red Stockings, 1871." This is the first known professional baseball cartoon to be published in any newspaper or periodical.
An exceedingly rare and desirable group of newspapers containing coverage of the first fully professional baseball team, most notably the first professional baseball cartoon discovery.
Both issues are bound together and were once apart of a bound edition of the newspaper. Wear on the outer margins and a tear on the front page towards the bottom center of the June 13th issue. The second issue is in good condition but has some separation on the center fold.
