- Lot Description
American, (Cincinnati, Ohio), mid-19th century. A dovetailed copper kettle having a gooseneck spout and bail handle, impressed J. Resor Cincinnati on handle; ht. 7.5 in. (without handle), oah. 12 in.
Jacob Resor, born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1786, came from a famous gunsmith family of Lancaster Co. He moved to Cincinnati in 1811. An ad appeared in 1816 Cincinnati Gazette & Liberty Hall newspapers: Highly Important Jacob Resor Wishes to inform his friends and the public in general that he has commenced the COPPERSMITH BUSINESS at his TIN PLATE MANUFACTURY on Main Street...GUNSMITH BUSINESS, as usual by Jacob Resor, on Front Street. Cash and highest price will b given for old Copper, Brass, & Pewter. He is listed in the Cincinnati City Directory for 1825 as coppersmith and tin-plate-worker located on corner of Walnut and Vine and Front Street (apparently two locations) with residence on Water Street. Resor was still listed in the 1836 Cincinnati Directory, but no occupation was given.
