American, mid-20th century. A carved wooden and painted confidence decoy of a heron or large water bird, signed Cris [Sic] Sprague / Beach Haven N.J., and with Shelburne Museum Collection stamp and accession number on underside. On a separate, likely later base; bird oah. 22.5 in., stand ht. 29.5 in.
Purchased by the Shelburne Museum in 1956 from Richard Moeller.
Deaccessioned by the Shelburne Museum in 1987 and consigned to auction at Richard A. Bourne, July 7-8, 1987, lot 64.
