- Lot Description
American (Philadelphia), 18th century. A Chippendale slant front desk in mahogany with a dovetailed top surface, having an interior fitted case with recessed arch prospect door flanked by small drawers over pigeonholes and scalloped valances, over four graduated dovetailed drawers flanked by inset reeded quarter pilasters, all rising on ogee bracket feet; ht. 42, wd. 42, dp. 23 in.
A note accompanying the desk traces its ownership back to James Frazier Johnston (1819-1864), a Philadelphia lawyer and ancestor of the consignor.
