Chinese Export Famille Rose Tureen and Undertray
Chinese Export, possibly 18th century. A porcelain tureen with purple and pink floral decoration, copper red boar's head handles and a green dentil border on lid as well as an undertray adorned with floral decorations; undertray lg. 14.25 in.
This tureen is identical to (or possibly from) the set that descended in the Mather family of Cleveland. Samuel Mather was a brother of Cotton Mather. See Christies' Jan. 23, 2002 catalog, Lot 12, for an example from the same set.
Gilt loss to handles and finial. Moderate paint loss to undertray. Expected wear on underside of pieces.
